Jammu January 3, 2018 (KNO) : Jammu & Kashmir, particularly Kashmir is undergoing one of its worst power crisis, the unscheduled load shedding and prolonged power cuts have become order of the day. Most parts of the winter zone are virtually reeling under darkness. With utter disregard to officially announced daily power cuts, the fact of the matter remains that there is no schedule for power cuts in any area, it could be anytime, anywhere. Despite the peak demand in Kashmir being around 1700 MW, the per capita still continues the lowest. One of the factors responsible for this sad situation is the existing transmission system that has not the sufficient carrying capacity from the northern grid. There has been utter insensitive response to this situation since years. There is no administrative seriousness in removing the operational bottlenecks for the completion of the Alasteng and Budgam grid stations. Protests continue against PDD department but these have gone unheard. There is serious problem of transformer damages without any infrastructure available at District headquarters for their quick repairs. It is very unfortunate that the government and PDD department seems to be least bothered about this worsening situation and the sufferings of the people. Keeping in view this deep power crisis CPI(M) legislator Mohamad Yousuf Tarigami has submitted following adjournment motion to the speaker urging for postponement of today’s business and taking up this important issue for discussion. But unfortunately Hon’ble Speaker did not allow this and other such motions moved by opposition members for debate and forcing the opposition to stage a walkout in protest. “I want to give a notice of adjournment Motion for 3rd of January 2018 in terms of Rule 56 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in J&K Legislative Assembly in order to discuss the situation that has arisen due to severe power crisis in most areas of the state due to hours of unscheduled power cuts daily, not coinciding with cold wave as mercury has further dipped down. Besides, the transformers are in a worst state, unable to sustain the additional load in winter resulting in chaos, resentment, confusion among the people there. As such, the day’s Business be suspended for holding full-fledged discussion on it.”(KNO)
